"compact, convenient, easy to use" 2009-08-26

Got this as a replacement for a Timex watch I lost in a locker room, which was a replacement for another Timex that fell apart, which itself was a replacement for yet another watch... Works great. Small, not too bulky. I like having the lap button on top and only the lap button on top (having both lap and start/stop on front results in accidentally starting and stopping the watch, and I do believe one of the buttons on the front of a previous Timex fell off). For better or worse, the strap has a little catch that makes it a little more secure (harder to accidentally fall off or purposely take off). My only gripe is my own fault-- 30 laps is not enough to record all splits of the 100 mile races I run, if I want to record both entering and leaving each aid station. I guess for most people it's enough.

Despite "takes a licking, but keeps on ticking", none of these watches lasts forever. I do expect this to fall apart in the next 5 years, if I don't lose it first.

"This is a great watch, but NOT a Flix watch." 2009-08-23
By Shopper (USA)
The rating is reflective of labeling (either Timex fault for serial number or Amazon for the incorrect description/image of the product with "Flix" on dial.)

Any Timex Ironman is a great watch. But after getting one from Amazon, realizing it doesn't have Flix, then returning it and getting another one (identical, no FLIX), I am pretty sure it has been mislabeled.

If you are buying for all the features except FLIX, it is a great price, and an excellent watch. If you are buying for Flix, better choose the more expensive models. The T5H591 is not a FLIX watch.

"WHAT are you gonna do when the band fails?" 2009-08-07
By Donald Gillies (San Diego, CA United States)
I've owned 10 Timex IronMan watches since 1987, and recently experienced a failure with a gift I gave my wife - the "custom" timex watchband DROPPED THE watch and she looked down only 4 months after receiving her christmas present and it was GONE FOREVER !!

Since I've owned so many of these watches I've watched over the years as they made changes, but this generation of watches is a HORRIBLE MISTAKE. First of all, it's been true that since the beginning of time, the cheap resin watchbands have been uncomfortable so everyone knows that when they break (and they DO break, after about 1 year, in general), you must purchase an aftermarket velcro watch band, or a leather band, or whatever blows your skirt up ...

I went to WalMart last week looking to pick up 2 of these watches and demo'ed them extensively (one for my self and one for my poor watch-less wife), but then realized, WHAT WILL I DO WHEN THE WATCH BAND FAILS ?? And the answer is : I'll be stuck paying $12 for another crappy resin proprietary band that TIMEX ships with this watch. Look at the photo. THIS WATCH DOESN'T USE STANDARD PINS TO MOUNT THE BAND. THE SPACE BETWEEN THE PINS IS TOO NARROW.

It's apparent to me that Timex is trying to become the Microsoft of watches!

I bought my wife a TIMEX Atlantis, and I recommend it highly to everyone. It has all the features of the Ironman, and none of this B.S. about proprietary bands and watch faces that fall out ...

"Description is false, no FLIX feature present" 2009-08-06
By Mr. Jason Garrison (Evansille, IN)
To all who are looking for the FLIX feature:

(Auto light by wrist movement)

this watch does not have the FLIX feature reguardless of what the desciption says. I am now returning and ordering a different model. I am more unhappy with Amazon than the watch because they have not returned an email or phone call about this matter, and currently the watch description remains false. After furthure research I have found out how to tell the difference.

#1 - All timex FLIX watches have "FLIX" on the wristban, notice amazon's picture does not.

#2 - search for the Product Code: T5H591 on the Timex Website and you will find this model is not a FLIX.

 "Great watch, but..." 2009-06-08
By Forest J. Malott
Great watch, but good luck trying to find a replacement band. They tend to crack & break apart at the buckle. The fitting is unique, therefore no generic band will work. You need the exact replacement band. I have not, as yet, found one listed anywhere. Is this built in obsolescence requiring you to purchase a new watch?
