"Let a Soldier review a mil spec watch please" 2009-10-16
By Sergeant Wills (Middle east/southwest asia)
OK, first of all, I'm a Sergeant in the Army, deployed to the middle east. That being said, I needed a watch that is:

A-subdued

B-has a stopwatch

C-the glow of the watch doesn't light up so bright everyone can see me

D-Multiple time zones

E-Solar powered

OK, this watch does three of the five. If you want a Mil-spec watch, DO NOT expect the thing to be bright colored; on the band or on the face. The point of the red lettering is to be subdued. This is a feature that a Soldier can appreciate. If you're not a combat arms Soldier who needs this type of function, buy a different watch. I do wish that it had multiple time zones however; so I can track Zulu time as well as local. Maybe it does, and I just haven't found it. Anyhow, the only reason I'm not giving this watch 5 stars is because of the two time zone lacking and it's not solar powered, or kinetically powered. Overall great watch, does what a Soldier needs it to do. (Desk jockies stick to regular faced watches)

 "I dig it..." 2009-10-01
By nathan (Texas, USA)
Watch just came in today. I think its awesome. Most reviews are saying that its hard to see in low light situations, and thats true, however the backlight more than does the job in those situations. In normal lighting its easy to see, and the black on black look really pops. This watch is definitely not for everyone, but it works like a charm for me.

 "Yuck!" 2009-08-16
By Roberto Gutierrez (US Forces Japan)
This G-Shock is a dissappointment. I had it for a day and returned it since I cannot hardly read the time. Military concept (yeah right!) Ive been to diff. deployments and I would not take this one. You have to be able to tell the time in a snap. This one seems like its not even on most of the time due to poor visibility. Well, If you are just inside the wire then, you can probably deal with it. Thumbs down definitely

"Product not worth the cost." 2009-08-06
By Dissatisfied (Melbourne, FL)
The reason I bought this watch is I thought since it's a "military style" watch I would be able to see the time in the dark since in a combat situation you don't want a bright light from the display showing. Well, you can't see the display in low light to dark. Even in a lit room one has to angle the watch to see the display.

The technical information states thye watch to be accurate plus/minus 15 seconds a month. I set the watch using the atomic clock run by the US Government. When I checked the time of the watch against the same atomic clock 1 week later, it had lost 26 seconds!! Now I'm not anal about the time but a loss of almost 2 minutes a month using the current loss, is too much. Telling the time by the sun (if you're a Boy Scout or Native American) is almost as accurate and a lot less expensive (free!)

 "Not for everyone" 2009-07-27
By Robert Lacey (Santa Maria)
First off I should note that I am a long time user and lover of Casio G-Shocks. I have owned several over the past couple of decades starting in the military. This is my first dissappointment with Casio watches.....

The face of the watch, buttons and setup are pretty standard for G-Shock watches.... The cool looking black screen with light lettering/numbers is the issue. In low light situations you cannot see the lettering/numbers. For example my coworker was sitting 10 feet away from me and I could read his standard G-Shock from across the room to tell the time when I couldn't even read mine on my wrist without using the light on the watch.....

If you work during the day or in brightly lit rooms all the time this may not be an issue, but if you are in and out of low lit areas, outside during dusk/dawn this watch will not be for you.

I am returning mine for a non-black faced Casio G-Shock watch.
